A short brief of National Service (NS):
Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, are required to serve National Service (NS) upon attaining the age of 18 unless exempted. NS can be served in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) or Singapore Police Force (SPF).
Following the completion of full-time NS, they will be required to serve up to 40 days of Operationally Ready National Service (ORNS) per year for the duration of their ORNS training cycle till the age of 50 years (for officers) or 40 years (for other ranks).
As Singapore employers, we are required to grant a leave of absence to NSmen employees when they are called upon to perform their NS duties. The employers are encouraged to communicate and work closely with NSmen employees to ensure that their work duties are covered without affecting their NS commitments.
As such, Legrand Singapore pledges that:
- We will honour and uphold our duty as employers of NSmen as laid out in the Enlistment Act (Cap 93, Part VI).
- We will recognise and appreciate the skills acquired and values inculcated in our NSmen through National Services.
- We will actively support our NSmen to manage their National Service commitments.
- We will readily commit our civil assets and services in support of Total Defence and support our nation in national crises or emergencies.
